IdolMind is a Texas based alternative rock
band. Their cover tunes
range from classic rock to modern rock and jazz. The band has officially
been together for three years, but two of the band members have been playing for
about four and a half years. The band consists of: Joseph Drew on
vocals/guitar, Matt Selby on bass guitar, and Ryan Sickel on drums. Before
IdolMind, Joseph and Ryan were playing together in '96. Cover tunes by
Nirvana, Silverchair, Metallica, and Ozzy Osbourne were often heard at parties
by the two. Their search for a bass player never seemed to end.
Matt Selby Joined the band in '97 on bass guitar. The trio began to play parties for fun and work up a buzz locally. In the summer of '98 the band brought in Cody Eubank on lead guitar, and named themselves DESS (after everyone's last initials). There was one problem though, Cody who was a great friend and an excellent guitar player, had shifted the bands style from versatile rock to straight blues. After about six months with the band, Joseph, Ryan, and Matt, decided it was time for Cody to leave the group.
Three months later after the three got back from Ireland on a (high school)
band trip, they entered in the high school talent contest and won, playing the
Beatles' "Come Together". The band, who entered themselves as
"IdolMind" decided to stick with the name to gain local
recognition. After several gigs and the Summer of '99 had passed, the
group decided to write cover songs and re invent themselves from classic rock to
modern rock. Today they are still busy doing what they do best, writing
songs and playing locally, looking to record an album, and hoping for a record
contract.
